Director of Kunsthalle-Mannheim
Dr. Ulrike Lorenz became the seventh director of the Kunsthalle Mannheim in 2009. She managed not only the Art Noveau building’s general refurbishment between 2010 and 2013 but also initiated the development of a state-of-the-art new museum building. These initiatives are part of Ms. Lorenz as overall aim to pave ways for the museum’s future in the 21st century which includes among other things the innovative digital strategy. Prior to her engagement in Mannheim, Ms. Lorenz was the director of the Kunstforum Ostdeutsche Galerie in Regensburg (2004-2008), of the municipal Art Museum of Gera and the Otto Dix House (1992-2004).Her research focus is situated within the classical modernists as well as contemporary art. The Kunsthalle Mannheim has been one of the first civic collections of modern art worldwide. The municipal art museum houses remarkable key works from artists as diverse as Édouard Manet and Francis Bacon as well as an emphasis on 20th century European sculpture.
